What is a social issue?

1. The condition must involve a gap between social ideals and social reality.
2. A significant proportion of the population must be involved in defining the problem.
3. The condition must be capable of solution through collective action.

How do you choose your topic / social issue?

1. It must be a social issue / problem.
2. You will be working on this issue all semester, so choose something you are interested in! You can use the linked sites to help you brainstorm / choose your topic. You may choose a local issue, or, an international issue, as long as it is a social issue. All World Studies students are required to research an international social issue.
3. You will need to find a minimum of eight reliable sources on your topic, so choose a topic that has been well researched.
4. Follow any other guidelines your professor recommends.
