An encyclopedia is a book or set of books giving information on many subjects (a general encyclopedia) or on many aspects of one subject (a subject encyclopedia) and typically arranged alphabetically. Encyclopedias attempt to summarize knowledge in relatively short articles. The entries are often written by different contributors who are knowledgeable about the topic. Encyclopedias can be either print or electronic. Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia whose articles are written collaboratively by volunteers. Contrary to standard encyclopedias, Wikipedia's articles are not necessarily written by subject experts. Encyclopedias are a type of Reference Work -- see Reference Work |
